Oh, my…
Oh, my…
I just found out and would like to let y'all, and especially @bantarleton, know that my 6th great grandfather, Calvin Spencer, was caught by British Dragoons in Georgetown March 1781.
The Brits exchanged him after a few months of being imprisoned and he then “became captain of the marines on a privateer.”
He was a transplant Yankee from Connecticut, which I can over look because he made the right decision to move to South Carolina. He also was at Fort Sullivan (now Fort Moultrie) and fought at the infamous Battle of Sullivan’s Island on June 28, 1776.
And because Calvin isn’t cool enough, his wife (my 6th great grandmother) Rebecca Ford Spencer Powe (she remarried after Calvin’s death) was a friend of the Marquis de Lafayette, who gave her a portrait of him. I’d like to know where that portrait is now!!
Lord knows I love doing genealogy!!
My 5th Great Grand. Small world!
